A Commercial for your Thoughts

Last week at church our pastor used Super Bowl commercials to bring several Biblical messages. The series is called 30 second theology.

One of my favorites was actually from Google - Loretta "how to not forget". And man did it bring the tears running down my cheeks. It was all about seeing life through the moments.  Because moments really do make up a life.  And the reason God continually set aside moments as a permanent reminder of how He brings us through when times are difficult and how we are to remember our blessings are also from Him.

I can’t speak for anyone else but it’s so easy to get caught up in the to do list or the distractions of our culture not to mention the device we carry.  And as sad as it is I just don't have the best memory for those things I want to remember.  If I didn't have pictures or videos I would have already forgotten so many things from when the kids were little.

Even the fact that I've once again thought about resurrecting this blog, which quite literally is the story of our lives, gives testimony that it's the moments that matter.  As the kids have gotten older they aren't with me as much except for this fiasco of 2020/2021 in which case they never leave my side due to Covid related reasons or the arctic weather that has descended upon us lately.

The other reason this blog has gone by the wayside is the new mission we have found ourselves a part of and the privacy needed to complete it.  We have been for the last year and half a foster family.  I haven't quite found an easy way to incorporate those stories, and they way our family has grown, into this blog.  But maybe, now that it's not all so new, this might be the time to introduce that really big piece of our lives.

So Grant and I have found ourselves looking for those moments this week. And they are a precious collection.

I'll ease myself into it by sharing these few...

Luke braving his chore this week in the weather and the dark to the trash can.  For an 8 year old armed with his headlamp he can do anything he sets his mind to!  Mom helped by standing the freezing garage waiting for his return from the abyss.  :)

Our word for the year is INVITE.  Not sure what exactly sure what that will look like in a year that follows a year forcing people to stay separated from even those they love.  But we will surely find out.
One of our first invites went to our foster kids parents.  Not sure what will happen but I guarantee they won't show up if they aren't invited!  The kids have loved the program and their teachers at church over the last 5 months and it would be really neat to share that with their parents.  By the way if you don't have a church home or don't believe in God at all but have some questions we would love for you to join us!

Mamma and Papa dropped by one afternoon to bring by Valentine's Day treats for the kids.  Luke decided to pretend to BE Papa and did a great imitation.  Not sure if it was the sugar or the seeing a person from the outside world for the first time in a week but the kids went crazy!  If only there was a volume button for their voices!  We could barely hear ourselves think!

Then there may have been the rarest sighting of the week.  These two actually getting along and not competing with each other.  Man if they ever team up they could conquer the world!  But for now I'll keep treasuring the moments.

Not pictured this week:  Potty Training a two year old, , Savannah taking 7 inches off the length of her hair, Caroline losing a tooth, and the first pay day from the chore charts.  Not to mention lots of distance learning (school from home on computers x 4), rolling blackouts, and

 -7 degree weather.

a flood (twice) in the laundry room from a frozen drain perhaps??? So thankful God gave me this handyman to save the day when I reach my breaking point.
