Keystone Ancient Forest | Family Adventure Days

It's early March and we are done with wrestling tournaments so our Saturdays are now free again.  We didn't have a plan for the day so as we sat on the couch Saturday morning and realized the kids were going to drive us nuts if we didn't get them out and about somewhere.

We looked up a few local hiking places and found this gem the Keystone Ancient Forest.  It has "special" hours so make sure you look them up before you head that way.  They are only open to hiking it seems on some Saturdays from 8-2pm.

The kids LOVE hiking! We are hoping to take them hiking some in Colorado this summer.  So this is great practice!

This sweet boy carried his bird guide the whole way and never saw one bird.  In fact we didn't see any live animals but with the noise we made I'm not surprised!

The volunteers that run Keystone Ancient Forest sit at the trailhead and have quite a few things to show the hikers.  They have lots of paw prints, pictures of animals found in the forest, and other interesting things found in this forest.  Each of the kids got to bring home a tree ring to count the age of the tree.
