We met up with my sister and "the cousins" for a morning hike at the Oxley Nature Center in Mohawk Park near the airport. Some mornings the kids are up to it some they aren't. Today they weren't but we traveled 30 minutes to get here and needed something to do so we made them march it out.
The first 20 minutes were a little rough until their attitudes changed. And we were in the middle of "no-where" (said Nooooooooowhere with attitude) and despite having their own maps not one of those children would be able to find the car with out us. So they were stuck marching on.
Things got interesting once we saw a bridge to cross and suddenly faces went from grumpy to excited. Plus this bridge led to another bridge without hand rails and well you can just imagine their delight and my dread! Then we discovered the swamp was dry but lilies and and other swamp plants were still growing. We were able to see lots of tracks in the dried mud.

At the end of the swamp trail we found this beautiful little lake with observation deck that they were able to climb and commandeer as their own clubhouse!
When we finished the hike we ended up back at the Oxley Nature Center and got to explore inside. The kids were fascinated by their bee exhibit where the bees could come and go. Then my sister Mary and I went on a queen hunt. We were determined to find her! And I'm pretty sure we did ...well technically Mary did. If it comes to competition she wins most of the time!
