Zoo Crazy

Three of my four kids LOVE Animals the fourth one is learning.   They pretend to be animals, they pretend to be a zoo, they have 39,000 stuffed animals each with a name.  And they love them more if they are a part of a family.  Mommy and Daddy alligator and the rest are babies.  You get the idea.

Every adventure day they look for the animals.  Thankfully a worm, butterfly, locust, or heaven sent turtle counts.  The zoo is like Disney World to them.  It is  "Jack Hanna's Animal Adventures" come to life.  Did you know the animals at the zoos have names?  Yep they do!  The Tulsa Zoo does a great job publicizing the "big" show stopping animals names like the Elephants and the Sea Lions but the rest... not so much.

One day we are going to take a map and seek out zoo keepers and find out some names to write on there.  I ask and forget most of the time.

When I told them they could go pet the peacock I thought the bird would take off before they caught him.  The  peacock is either getting old or Savannah is getting fast.

One of the saddest parts to me about school starting back is that my "big kids" don't get to go to the zoo very often.  So we had one last hurrah with them.  We were there before the gates opened to enjoy all the cool"er" temperatures we could before we started baking in the sun.

One of my favorite things about going early is seeing the animals eat breakfast.  Here is a short video of the monkeys.  They all have a special spot at the "table" and the baby is named Enloe :)

Caroline is quickly figuring out this zoo thing and I can't wait to take her and Luke in the Spring and Fall as she is learning the English words for the animals.  It is all new for these two!

If you don't have a zoo pass it is one of the best investments we have made over the years.  We can go for an hour or two and then head home.  We go a lot.  The zoo pass would make a great 1st birthday gift or we do Christmas gifts.  If you are in Tulsa Mathis Brothers does a zoo pass sale in the spring around May that is totally a bargain!
