Day 9 #homemadechristmas Pinecone Firestarter

Luke and I tackled boiling wax as a part of today's #homemadechristmas gift activity. I'm not sure if he was more curious of nervous about the idea of working with any substance that's boiling. I guess I should appreciate his awareness of risk. Items needed: Pinecone (Scented optional) Wax for candlemaking (found in the grocery baking aisle of walmart) twine Metal container for making a double boiler Directions: Melt wax in double boiler. (Put wax in metal container. Put container in water heat to boiling. This will melt the wax. Tie twine around the pinecone. (Leave the twine long and cut after dipping in wax for safety. Dip pinecone in wax to cover it. Cool in freezer. Dip again. Until the wax is built up on the pinecone. Over all a simple, attractive, and pleasant smelling gift that will be appreciate by anyone who lights a fire!
